Founded in 2017, Douglas Innovation began as a small startup driven by the need for high-quality, reliable filament. Today, with a dedicated team of 13 employees, we continue to push the boundaries of filament manufacturing by focusing on quality, consistency, and rapid turnaround times.

Our journey started with operating a high-volume print farm, where sourcing filament that met our stringent standards proved nearly impossible. The market lacked options that combined bulk availability, color variety, and unwavering quality. In response, we began producing our own filament exclusively for internal use. By 2021, we decided to open our doors to the public, making our meticulously crafted filament available to everyone.

Unlike many manufacturers who cut costs by adding fillers and additives to their PLA, we chose a different path. Early testers of our filament provided outstanding feedback, urging us to keep our PLA pure. We listened. By eliminating unnecessary additives and implementing rigorous data-driven quality control, we ensured that every spool we produce is of the highest possible standard. We understand that 3D printing enthusiasts, hobbyists, and professionals alike demand perfection, and we refuse to compromise.

In 2022, we expanded our reach by opening a physical storefront, allowing customers to see and feel our filament firsthand. This hands-on approach gave makers confidence in the quality of our products and solidified our commitment to transparency in manufacturing. Our goal has always been to produce affordable filament without sacrificing quality, ensuring that every spool is dependable and consistent.

As of 2024, Polar Filament has grown to become a trusted white-label manufacturer for nine brands across the United States. While we excel at producing top-tier filament, branding and marketing are an entirely different game. We chose to focus on what we do best—manufacturing precision-engineered filament—while allowing our partners to handle branding and distribution. However, as demand for direct-to-consumer sales continued to grow, we recognized the need to expand our own brand and educate the community about filament production.
